Lincoln Displays Navigator Concept at LA Auto Show

At Randall Reed’s Planet Lincoln in Spring, we love seeing the latest innovation for our luxury auto maker and so will auto enthusiasts.  The Lincoln Navigator concept is being revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Nov. 18-27. Makes one wonder what’s next for Lincoln’s best-known vehicle – a full-size SUV..

The design concepts are always intriguing, but what could really be rolled out in the years to come. This years reveal had a design team that was inspired by luxury yachts and sailboats. This influence can be seen in everything from the vehicle’s clean, modern lines and Storm Blue exterior, to teak finishes and exquisite detailing throughout.

“Lincoln Navigator concept reinforces our commitment to give every Lincoln client what we call quiet luxury – vehicles and experiences that are elegant and effortlessly powerful,” said Kumar Galhotra, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “Quiet luxury is what sets Lincoln apart. We’re showing fans of large SUVs how we can exceed their expectations, without being the loudest statement on the road.”

Lincoln’s most spacious interior yet – a key purchase consideration among buyers of large SUVs – is delivered with outstanding refinement in the Navigator concept. A custom wardrobe management system at the rear offers spacious organization for the savvy traveler. Six Lincoln-patented Perfect Position Seats adjust 30 ways to best support various body types. The driver’s seat includes independent deployable thigh support for maximum comfort.

Monitors on the back head restraints offer passengers Wi-Fi connectivity – allowing them to wirelessly share music and content from personal devices. In addition, Lincoln’s Revel® audio system is specially tuned for superior sound quality throughout.

The concept vehicle is equipped with several drive modes designed to improve ride and handling and allow drivers to find the experience that best suits their given terrain. Drive modes affect steering, suspension and noise levels.

A 360-degree camera and enhanced park assist features take the stress out of parallel and perpendicular parking. The system seamlessly integrates views from four cameras – creating an overhead image that allows drivers to see all around the vehicle.

Navigator concept’s Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection uses radar and camera technology to scan the road ahead. If a collision risk with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected, the system provides a warning to the driver. If the driver doesn’t respond, it can automatically apply up to full braking force to help reduce the severity of – even eliminate – some frontal collisions. A lane-keeping system vibrates the steering wheel to alert drivers straying from their lane, providing mild input to encourage them back toward the center.

Lincoln Navigator concept is accessed through distinctive power gullwing doors and deployable concertina steps. A special lighting sequence – a signature Lincoln feature – welcomes passengers for every journey.

Lincoln at Los Angeles Auto Show Celebrates Past, Future As Brand Rolls Out Reinvention

2013 Lincoln MKZ coming to Planet Lincoln in Spring, Texas soon!

The all-new Lincoln MKZ has certainly been big buzz for Lincoln as they look forward to their future, but at the Los Angeles Auto Show, attendees will also have a chance to look back to the car company’s elegant past.

Everyone has been talking about the all-new MKZ, which is no surprise since it is the new face of Lincoln. It represents a significant milestone in the brand’s ongoing reinvention. It’s the first of four new Lincoln vehicles to be introduced in the next four years.

Looking Back at Lincoln’s Heritage
Since 1922, the year Edsel Ford signed the agreement purchasing the Lincoln Motor Company from its founder Henry Leland, the hallmark of Lincoln has been its elegant simplicity. For Edsel, the key to revitalizing Lincoln was styling. His vision for design was that every line, contour and angle should have intent. The pure sensitivity of a line is at the heart of Lincoln’s heritage – carried into the present moment of Lincoln’s reinvention with the MKZ premium midsize sedan and MKZ Hybrid.

Classics on Display
There are seven models of yesteryear on display at the auto show, including:

  • 1929 Lincoln L Dietrich Convertible Coupe. It had a base price of $6,200.
  • 1932 Lincoln KB LeBaron Convertible Roadster. The displayed LeBaron Convertible Roadster was priced at $4,600.
  • 1937 Lincoln Derham Sport Sedan.
  • 1937 Lincoln-Zephyr Coupe-Sedan.
  • 1940 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet.
  • 1956 Continental Mark II.
  • 1961 Lincoln Continental Sedan.

Lincoln’s iconic past and exciting future are juxtaposed on its new blog launching today on Tumblr, http://lincolnnow.tumblr.com. For this occasion, U.S. photographers Kevin Burg and Jamie Beck have created evocative “cinemagraphs” depicting scenes starring iconic Lincolns.

A cinemagraph is an image that contains a living cinematic moment that allows a glimpse of time to be experienced and preserved endlessly. Starting in-camera, the artists take a traditional photograph and combine a living moment into the image through the isolated animation of multiple frames.

New Lincoln Design Studio Opens – Planet Lincoln News

New Lincoln Design Studio in Dearborn, Mich.

One small step for man, one giant leap for for Lincoln design. Yes, Lincoln is taking another step in their journey as they continue to reinvent and evolve the Lincoln brand. The car maker is celebrating the formal opening of its new Lincoln Design Studio in Dearborn, Mich. It is the brand’s first new fully dedicated design center in four decades.

This new facility is located on the campus of Ford Motor Company’s Product Development Center. It is home to a skilled, co-located global team of designers, sculptors, math sculptors and modelers that represent a dozen nationalities.

This design team is part of a dedicated Lincoln Product Development organization, creating four all-new Lincoln vehicles by 2015 to ensure the reinvented brand has a presence in the highest growth segments of the premium market, according to Lincoln.

“We have spent considerable time to develop strong integrated design, engineering and product programs into a common Product Development vision for Lincoln,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development, speaking at the opening program. “Lincoln’s advantage is we can build on the company’s tremendous global product development resources and ensure we continually innovate to develop the best technology and apply it to support the unique Lincoln difference.”

Examples of this approach include, highlighting the all-new Lincoln MKZ’s push-button shift and panoramic glass roof.

“Lincoln’s renaissance is built on our new product lineup and is a personalized experience with designs that deliver on our promise of a personalized motor car: beautiful, elegant, and most of all, surprising,” said Jim Farley, group vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service.

The new studio was created to allow designers and engineers to able truly collaborate. Lincoln says the entire space is configured to allow Product Development team members to drop in, have ad-hoc discussions and make impromptu innovative brainstorm sessions the order of the day and not the exception.

The first vehicle to emerge from the studio will be the 2013 MKZ, which goes on sale late this year.
