Randall Reed’s Planet Lincoln in Spring has partnered with Children’s Books On Wheels, a non-profit mobile organization dedicated to promoting literacy for school-age children. Planet Lincoln shares the organizations commitment to literacy and education. Together, Planet Lincoln and Children’s Books On Wheels are launching the Lincoln Literacy Corner located inside the Lincoln dealership.
“This is a wonderful charity that is doing amazing things for the children and families in our community,” said Randall Reed, owner of Planet Lincoln. “We are thankful to be able to partner and assist in helping this organization that is doing so much to promote literacy and fun reading programs for our kids.”
John Dvorak, General Manager at Planet Lincoln agrees. “We are excited to announce this partnership with Children’s Books On Wheels and our sponsorship of Seed To Read, an after-school program which provides educational support through mentoring and tutoring to school-age children from Pre-K to 12th grade in underdeveloped rural communities. This joint effort also allows us to be a community resource for books at no cost to children who otherwise would not have access to books and learning materials in our surrounding areas.”
Both organizations will be hosting a ribbon cutting and dedication of the Lincoln Literacy Corner on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To kick off the event, Planet Lincoln will host a Children’s Books On Wheels “Lemonade For Literacy” during that time. Planet Lincoln is located at 20440 I-45 North, Spring, Texas 77373.
The best lemonade in town will be served courtesy of Spring’s Chick-Fil-A, a community partner. In addition, the sheriff’s department will be fingerprinting kids for free and there will be a fire truck from the Spring Fire Department. All children and their families are welcome to come and celebrate with us. Free books and lemonade are available for children of all ages.
“We’re so happy to partner with Children’s Books On Wheels as we take literacy to the next level in Spring and surrounding counties,” said Alexa Horak, Planet Lincoln’s Community Relations Director. “We are making history as the first dealership to provide free books and promote the mission of reading books for all children with books from Children’s Books On Wheels.”
Rita Wiltz, the Executive Director and Founder of Children’s Books On Wheels, states, “literacy is on the move because literacy matters.” We look forward to these events that are vital resources to the community.
This is just the beginning of a long line of literacy events at Planet Lincoln. On September 28, there will be a Teddy Bear Tea. The community is also invited to join us on October 26 for a Breast Cancer Awareness Balloon Release event at Planet Lincoln.
